inició su andadura en 1993
Ubicada en el Casco Viejo de Bilbao, nació con el propósito
de ser un espacio de presentación y difusión del
joven Arte vasco contemporáneo.
A partir del año 2000 nos
hemos especializado en ocupar y acondicionar espacios industriales
en desuso idóneos para la realización de exposiciones
de Arte de gran formato.
Nuestro primer edificio, en Uribitarte (Bilbao) fué el
Depósito Franco. Allí presentamos con gran éxito
las últimas obras de José Luis Zumeta (Usurbil 1939).
En el 2001 realizamos dos grandes
exposiciones en los antiguos talleres de Laminados Velasco. La
primera de ellas dedicada a la obra de Rafael Ruiz Balerdi (Donostia
1934). Fué elogiada como “la mejor exposición
organizada para este pintor”. Cerramos este edificio con
una colectiva de artistas vascos. Actualmente en este lugar se
levantan las torres de Isozaki.
En el 2002 y 2003
abrimos una nueva galería de Arte frente al Museo Guggenheim
en la que realizamos una veintena de exposiciones. Hicimos compatible
este espacio con la nueva ocupación durante dos veranos
consecutivos de la antigua imprenta Atlántica en Biarritz.
Más de mil metros cuadrados para mostrar los últimos
trabajos realizados por nuestros pintores.
En ese mismo año viajamos a Nueva York para presentar las
pinturas de Zumeta realizadas en el 2002.
Durante el 2004-2005 ocupamos el
antiguo Mercado Municipal de Erandio (Vizcaya) y realizamos tres
exposiciones de pintores profesionales y dos de pintura infantil.
Organizamos con éxito talleres de Artes plásticas
dirigidos a toda la población escolar del municipio.
El período del 2006-2007 acondicionamos
la segunda planta del Mercado de la Ribera de Bilbao. Más
de tres mil quinientos metros cuadrados donde presentamos tres
exposiciones profesionales y una de pintura infantil realizada
en este periodo de tiempo por los escolares bilbaínos.
Desde el 2004 desarrollamos nuestra
actividad en Bilbao, en un piso palaciego del Casco Viejo, en
la calle Jardines nº 10 -3º Iz.

urtean ekin zion bere ibilbideari; jatorrizko lekua Bilboko alde
zaharrean zeukan eta euskal arte garaikidea erakutsi eta zabaltzeko
asmoz sortu zen.
2000. urtetik aurrera, neurri handiko
artelanak erakusteko bereziki aproposak diren areto industrial
erabili gabeak egokitu eta okupatzen trebatu gara.
Erakustoki legez erabili genuen lehenengo aretoa Bilboko Depósito
Franco (Uribitarte) izan zen. Hantxe erakutsi genituen, arrakasta
handiarekin, Jose Luis Zumetaren lanak (Usurbil 1939).
2001.ean Laminados Velasco tailer
zaharretan erakusketa erraldoi bi antolatu genituen: lehena, Rafael
Ruiz Balerdi (Donostia 1934) margolariaren lana erakusteko; kritikak
“margolari honi egin zaion erakusketarik onena” izen
zela adierazi zuen orduan. Bigarrena, euskal artista askoren lanak
erakusteko egin genuen. Gaur egun, Isozaki dorreak daude leku
horretan.
2002 eta 2003
urteetan, Guggenheim museoaren aurrean galeria-areto berria ireki
genuen, eta bertan hogei bat erakusketa antolatu.
Aldi berean, urte horietako udetan, Miarritzeko Atlantica inprimategiaren
eraikuntza zaharra okupatu genuen: mila metro karratutik gora,
gure margolari eta eskultoreen azken lanak erakusteko.
2003.ean baita ere, New Yorkeraino joan ginen Zumetaren 2002ko
lanak erakustera.
2004-2005 urteetan Erandioko Udal-merkatu zaharra okupatu
genuen Bizkaian: margolari profesionalen erakusketa bi antolatu
genituen, eta baita umeen margolanekin osatutako beste erakusketa
bi. Izan ere, Eraindioko eskola-ume guztientzako arte plastikoko
tailer arrakastatsuak antolatu genituen berton.
2006-2007 denbora-tartean Bilboko
Erribera Azokako bigarren soilairua egokitu genuen. Bertan (3000
metro karratu baino gehiago) hiru erakusketa profesional egin
genituen eta baita Bilboko eskoletako haurrek denbora tarte horretan
egindako margolanen erakusketa bat ere.
2004. urtetik,
Bilbon jarduten dugu, Parte Zaharrean, antzinako garaietatik aldatu
gabe dirauen etxebizitza handi eta eder batean (Jardinez kalea,
10 zenbakia, 3.a ezkerretara).
The epelde &
mardaras art gallery came
into being in 1993 in the Old Quarter
of Bilbao with the idea of being a space for the exhibition of
young contemporary Basque art and bringing this to the public
at large.
Since the year 2000
we have specialised in taking charge of disused industrial spaces
and making them suitable for putting on exhibitions of large format
works of art.
Our first building, in Uribitarte (Bilbao),
was the Bonded Warehouse zone where we had great success with
the latest works by José Luis Zumeta (born Usurbil 1939).
In 2001 we put on two big exhibitions
in the workshops of the old Velasco sheet metal works. The first
was given over to works by Rafael Ruiz Balerdi (Donostia 1934)
and which was lauded as being “the best ever exhibition
organised of this painter’s work”. Our final use of
the enclosure was with a collection of works by a number of Basque
artists. The Isozaki towers are now standing on this site.
In 2002 and 2003
we opened a new Fine Art gallery opposite the Guggenheim Museum
in which we undertook the curation of some twenty exhibitions.
Over two consecutive summers we organised
in such a way that these newly occupied premises worked in tandem
with the old Atlantic printing works in Biarritz.
More than thousand square metres were being
used to exhibit the latest works of our artists.
In that same year we travelled to New York to exhibit paintings
that Zumeta had executed in 2002.
In 2004-2005
we occupied the old municipal market in Erandio (Bizkaia) and
we undertook three exhibitions of professional painters and two
of children’s paintings. We successfully organised plastic
arts’ workshops aimed at the school population of the whole
municipal borough.
Durin the period 2006-2007 we prepared
the second floor of the Municipal Market of La Ribera for art
exhibits. In this space of more than 3000 square meters we had
three professional exhibitons and one exhibition by school children
from Bilbao, with work done during this time period.
Since 2004
we have been carrying out our activities in Bilbao, on one floor
of a small palatial building in the Old Quarter (on the 3rd left
floor at Number 10, calle Jardines).
